What is the difference between maximum sampling rate and bandwidth?

Question :

What is the difference between maximum sampling rate and bandwidth?

Answer :

An important concept in data acquisition systems is the distinction between maximum sampling rate and bandwidth. The maximum sampling rate is the net throughput of the ADC measurement, after taking into account each of the timed steps in the data acquisition process. These steps may include multiplexer switching, sample and hold time, ADC conversion time, any digital handshaking (i.e., DMA request cycle), and possibly software execution times. Bandwidth is strictly a function of the analog input circuitry's ability to pass high frequencies. The bandwidth is simply the highest frequency signal component that can pass through input amplifiers and/or filters without being attenuated.
