U.S. Navy Selects Tektronix as Supplier of Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes
Multi-million Dollar Sale Extends Over a Five-Year Period
BEAVERTON, Ore., June 8, 2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced a multi-million dollar requirements contract award from the U.S. Navy to supply Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes (DPOs). The awarded contract has a Best Estimated Quantity (BEQ) of 500 units over a five-year period.
The Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP), the Navy's primary equipment purchasing and inventorying agent for the Naval Sea Systems Command and Shore Community, will use Tektronix' 500-MHz, 4-channel TDS5054B oscilloscopes for its General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment (GPETE) program. This contract follows a similar one awarded to Tektronix last summer by the U.S. Navy with a BEQ of up to 1,500 100-MHz TDS3000B oscilloscopes for use in the installation, maintenance and support of an array of electronic equipment and systems ranging from low-tech radio systems to highly sophisticated radar systems.
NAVICP selected Tektronix' oscilloscope portfolio for its product innovation, capability and affordability. The TDS5000B Series is particularly affordable and easy-to-use with the addition of the industry's first easily customizable user interface and context-sensitive, right-mouse click menus. Users throughout the U.S. Navy will be able to quickly and easily conduct required, complex measurements with Tektronix' TDS5054B oscilloscopes.
"In today's world, our customers are dealing with increasingly complex electronic systems and the demand for shorter and shorter downtimes with regard to time-to-test and time-to-maintain," said Colin Shepard, Vice President, Performance Oscilloscope Product Line, Tektronix. "The downtime issue is particularly critical when it pertains to national security and the readiness of a branch of the armed services like the U.S. Navy. Tektronix is committed to enabling systems readiness, and the TDS5000B Series is a perfect example of the design, test and monitoring solutions offered that can effectively support this specific need."
About the TDS5054B-NV
The TDS5054B-NV is a 500-MHz, 4-channel DPO that incorporates all the features of the new TDS5000B Series. MyScopeT functionality enables users to quickly and easily customize the oscilloscope's user interface to meet their unique requirements. Users can create a virtually unlimited number of custom MyScope control windows, enabling multiple users of a shared oscilloscope to each have their own custom interface. In addition, the TDS5000B Series uses context sensitive menus with the Microsoft Windows ® mouse right-click and scroll wheel features. When pointing the cursor at an area of interest on the display - e.g., a waveform displayed on channel one - users can right-click to bring up a menu of possible controls. The TDS5000B Series provides insight into signal behavior by displaying, storing and analyzing complex signals in real-time to enable engineers and technicians to more efficiently design, debug, and test their devices.
