Inet's Spectra2 Supports IPv6 Addressing Format Allowing Users to Work with IPv6 and IPv4 Simultaneously

Inet's Spectra2 Supports IPv6 Addressing Format Allowing Users to Work with IPv6 and IPv4 Simultaneously

IPv6 Support Results in Initial Sale to Japanese Tier-One Carrier Growing Traction for Spectra2 in the Asian VoIP Market

Richardson, Texas, USA – May 10, 2004 – Inet Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: INTI), a leading global provider of communications software products that enable communications carriers to more strategically and profitably operate their businesses, today announced the availability of IPv6 support in its Spectra2™ Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) diagnostics product. IPv6 support, in conjunction with Spectra2's VoIP testing capabilities, was a key factor in Inet's winning business with a tier-one Japanese carrier.

With IPv6 support, Spectra2 users can now monitor, test and generate H.323, SIP, MGCP, Megaco and RTP traffic using the IPv6 addressing format. IPv6 is supported in all Spectra2 applications. Users now have the ability to monitor, test and generate in IPv4 and IPv6 address schemes simultaneously.

IPv6, or Internet Protocol Version 6, is the next generation of the Internet Protocol and increases the address space from 32 bits to 128 bits. The increased address space in IPv6 will enable a greater number of devices, such as telephones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), to connect to a carrier's IP network and access services such as voice, data and video.

"This new functionality benefits all of our customers entering the VoIP arena," said Lyn Cantor, Inet's vice president, diagnostics products. "Japan, China and Korea are in the vanguard of adopting technologies that utilize IPv6, so carriers and equipment manufacturers in the Asia/Pacific region have an immediate need for IPv6 support. However, IPv6 will also become important to customers in the U.S. and the rest of the world as they too begin to more widely deploy IP communications networks."

Other benefits of IPv6 include the ability to reserve groups of addresses for specific types of uses, a simplified protocol header that will speed up data transmission and a feature called "flow labeling" that will allow workstations and hosts to better accommodate special handling of applications such as videoconferencing that generate heavy interactive traffic.
